UNECE Meeting
Geneva, Swizerland - 1-2 December 2009
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) 4th Regional Implementation Meeting on Sustainable Development held in Geneva in 2009 was a key moment in leading to the creation of the North American Roundtable on Sustainable Production and Consumption. The goal of this regional meeting was to prepare the UNECE region's contribution, of which North America is a part of, to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development's 18th session (CSD) in May 2010, in particular around the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption & Production.
This meeting in Geneva was an opportunity for NARSPAC's four founding organizations--the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN), the Citizens Network for Sustainable Development (CitNet), the Sustainable Consumption Research and Action Initiative (SCORAI), and the North American Sustainable Consumption Alliance (NASCA)--to come together and share their intent to work together towards promoting sustainable patterns of consumption and production in North America. One Earth's Emmanuel Prinet, invited by UNEP DTIE to attend the meeting, delivered a short statement on behalf of the four North American networks.
